So our topic the past few Sunday nights in GFG has been on faith. What is faith? What should faith look like in my life? Thought I'd share a piece of what we've learned...
Breaking down meanings of words sometimes can be helpful. So, faith in the Greek language (the original language the New Testament was written in) is "pistis". "Pistis" means belief, believe, believing, faith, fidelity. This type of faith or belief is a verb; an action word. Faith requires us to d0 something-take action. Not just that we believed God for savlation, but that we are "continually believing God"* in everything we do. He will begin to dramatically change us through this type of active belief!
There are examples of these dramatic changes throughout Scripture. Think of the disciples in the Bible. Twelve men called by Christ…they gave up absolutely everything and followed him.
Here's another example:
Matthew 4:18-20 "As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw
two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him."
The verse says “at once they left their nets and followed him.” At once.
Not tomorrow, not when we get older, settle down, get our lives together. Nope. At once. Peter and Andrew gave up their fishing career, left their father behind on the boat and never looked back.
This is the type of radical believing we are learning Jesus expects from us. Leaving it all behind and following Him with everything we have. That is faith in action.
