Hey Everyone!
I've been talking a lot about reading your Bible. But...I know that the Bible is intimidating to a lot of people. It's a really big book-so much to read-where do I start? It's a really old book-the words are too hard to understand!
I hear ya! Here are few things that can help.
How to Study God's Word:
**Find a good devotional. "What's a devotional?" It's a book that will take a verse or passage from the Bible and explain it to you in an easy to understand way. You can find these at your local christian bookstore or online. I highly recommend using them! (www.cbd.com is a great website)
**Use this! We call it the "LD" Format. Give it a try :)
"LD" Format
1. Choose a verse or passage of scripture from the Bible. (Try the
list of verses I have at the bottom of the page).
2. Read it quietly, slowly; don’t rush it.
3. Think about what you are reading. You might want to read
the verse several times.
4. Pray and ask God to speak to you about this verse. You can
ask God:
*What do you want me to learn from this verse?
*What does this mean for my life?
*What are you trying to say to me?
5. Spend time quietly praying and listening to God.
*What do you hear? What is he saying to you?
*Listen carefully-Get a journal and write down
what you hear.
6. What are you going to do now because of this
verse? Write down how you plan to apply this
verse to your life today, this week, for good.
Now go and do it.
Here are some verses you can use with the format. There's no particular order to them. You can use the format with any verse or passage in the Bible!
Verses to try:
*Psalms 25:4-7
*Psalms 27:4-5
*Proverbs 3:5-6
*Proverbs 16:3-9
*Matthew 6:5-15
*Matthew 5:43-48
*Matthew 6:19-24
*Matthew 7:13-14
*Philippians 4:6-9
*Psalms 139: 23-24
*2 Corinthians 13:5
*Ephesians 3:16-20
*Exodus 20: 1-17
*Joshua 1:9
