Trials, hardships, problems. We all face them. Why do we have them? How should we handle them? That was some of our discussion with the girls this year through our theme "The Life of a Christian Girl".
We discussed their everyday worlds of friendships, bullying, gossip and boy drama. "Why am I having to go through this?" is something we've all asked at one time or another, whether we've dealt with these problems or heavier ones in our lives. We discovered a POWERFUL verse that gave us understanding, hope and purpose and I wanted to share it in hopes it encourages you as much as it did us.
The verse? Psalm 84:11 "For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right."
Take a look at the last part of this verse. "The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right." The meaning? He doesn't hold back anything that is good for us when we are "doing what is right" as believers. This verse is certainly talking about the Lord blessing us with good when we walk a blameless life. But, we discovered another way to look at it as well. The "good" He won't withhold from us, may not seem so good to us at the time-but it's His good-BIG difference. Like those problems we all deal with. Maybe there's a reason for them. Maybe there's a purpose we're going through them.
For example: The boy who doesn't want to date me? The Lord wouldn't withhold anything good-so he must not be good for me. My best friend who has been gossiping about me? The Lord doesn't withhold good for those who are doing what is right-maybe He's teaching me a lesson about friendship through the situation. Lost a job? Maybe that job is no longer what is good for you, because He doesn't withhold good for those whose walk is blameless.
We should look back over the problems we've faced. Was He teaching us something? Guiding us somewhere? Perhaps calling us into a deeper relationship with Him through our problems? Maybe we're not on the other side of the problem yet. But, we can know-believe-trust our Savior that there is a reason. He is good.
Knowing this we were able to walk away from our meeting that night with confidence. We can know as believers that whatever happens in our lives-it's good for us. There is purpose. Our lives have purpose. He's got it under control.
